The Tulevik AGM was held on Saturday 2nd November in the Baltic Block at Catthorpe. Manor

Chairperson's Report, 2002

Tulevik met in November, March, May and August children's camp. The A.G.M. was a relaxing weekend, seeing people again. As well as the meeting, where the discussion was mainly about next years summer's day concert, we had a Christmas decoration workshop organised by Dolli. The children had an hour organised for them afterwards with a disco. Thanks for Carla and Laura for organising that. The evening ended with a quiz set by Dolli - thanks Dolli.

In the March weekend we had a forum meeting where we discussed the latest information about the summer's day events, the May weekend's programme and we chose the representatives for the forthcoming I.E.U. meeting. Dolli and Ly again had the children participating in an Easter art session, and Kristy held an Estonian lesson for the children. Later in the evening Reet and Toomas organised the 'Weakest Link' contest, which Peter won. Thanks to Reet and Toomas. The evening ended by celebrating Peter's 50th birthday.

The 28th anniversary dinner dance was held in early May with the weekend consisting of Estonian lessons and a picture hunt organised by Carla and Laura - thanks to them. The committee had a meeting with the London representatives to discuss the summer's day celebrations. The meeting was a positive experience, we then reported the outcomes back to the group later. Our dinner dance began with drinks in the bar, and we celebrated the evening with much merriment. Many people were there with a number of people expressing their good wishes. Everyone enjoyed the hot meal, and Peter provided the superb dance music - thanks to Pete. Friends of Tulevik also shared this evening with us. The awards were presented by Rein, which created many laughs. Thank you to everyone who helped in any way that weekend.

The Estonian children's camp in August was again a successful one. It was pleasing to see new children showing an interest in camp activities. The week consisted of Estonian lessons, singing, dancing, art and much recreation. All the children enjoyed the week very much and many new friendships were established. Also, preparations were being made during the week for the concert on the Saturday. As many of you know, this year's event was a joint effort with the London Estonians. It proved to be a stressful week for some of us at camp, trying to deal with last minute preparations, which were at times totally out of our control. Of course, the Saturday concert proved to be a huge success because of Tulevik's experience in organising these events. I, as chairperson, would especially like to thank our committee members for the time and energy that they put in beforehand, in order to make this event so successful. Of course, many many thanks to all of you who helped with the organisation.

The concert itself was enjoyed by a large, appreciative audience with the weather just on our side. We thought that our children's performance might be overshadowed by the talented boys' choir from Estonia. However, both performances were very entertaining and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the whole day. Again an occasion to remember, with a variety of national dances, community singing in the hall and a dance to finish off the evening. Many Tulevik items were sold and we have some with us here. Again the lottery made a lot of money. It was good to see so many people stay overnight and share the thoughts of the previous day at breakfast. The article in the Estonian paper a few weeks after shared our success. It was interesting to read the thoughts of the children.

As for next years summer's day? The Leicester Estonians have already approached us to organise the event together. I wait for your thoughts and ideas later.

Karin and Rein represented the group at this years IEU meeting in Leicester. Astrid and Reet are still on the committee. Some of us are still helping and supporting organisations around the country. The older generation have supported us during the year. Cards and flowers have been sent to associate members at Christmas, and some have celebrated anniversary birthdays, most recently Ly's mother - Malle our dance teacher.

A successful year. Thankyou!

Programme 2002/3

It was agreed that the forum meetings held each Tulevik weekend have been a great success, giving all members an opportunity to put forward their views and discuss future activities and events. The members agreed the following programme for next year:

  • March weekend 2003: Reet and Toomas will arrange an Antiques Roadshow - all participants to bring along unusual items and have them valued; a chance also to guess who brought which object! Other suggestions for the weekend included yoga for beginners and an Easter bunny workshop (which Dolli kindly agreed to organise). The forum meeting will discuss final arrangements for the May weekend and Rahvapidu programme.
  • May weekend 2003: It was agreed that the dinner-dance would be held on the Sunday - holding it on the Saturday this year had, in effect, shortened the weekend as everyone went home on Sunday morning (this rather defeated the original objective of holding it on Saturday, which was to allow people to recover on Sunday before driving home!). Proposed activities for the Saturday included swimming or walking during the day and a murder-mystery evening. The food for the dinner-dance will be discussed at the forum meeting in March.

Elections: new committee

Congratulations to Vic who was voted on to the committee.

Karin was again elected chairperson, with Kristy secretary. Tiina, Dolli and Linda were re-elected as committee members.
